The Catholic Institute of Theology (CIT) was established in 1989 by the Auckland Diocese to serve as the centre for Continuing Faith Education as well as University level theological teaching and research. Certificates available include New Zealand's only Certificate in Maori Theology and Spirituality, as well as certificates in Leadership in a Catholic School, Ministry, and Religious Education. All certificates are module-based, which means that people or organisations can select either to complete the certificate, or take one or more modules to meet specific needs. The Catholic Institute provides courses as part of the following programmes of study: Bachelor of Theology through to PhD in Theology (Auckland University), Bachelor of Education and Master of Education (Auckland College of Education) and as well the Master of Religious Education degree is taught on behalf of the Catholic University of Australia. The Institute is sited in Newman Hall, next to the city campus of Auckland University, allowing full integration into the life and facilities of the University.
