Policy One Grant
An annual grant that was established in 1999 by legal agreement between the Crown and the Proprietors. The primary purpose of the grant is to fulfil the obligation that the Ministry has under the Integration Act to maintain the integrated school property. By providing the funding, the Ministry has given over to the Proprietor the responsibility and the means to maintain the school premises.
The Policy One grant is calculated annually, and is based on an agreed formula based on the value of Crown owned schools, and the numbers of students in these schools. This results in a per-capita sum that is then calculated for each integrated school and Proprietor on the basis of student numbers as at 1st July in the previous year.
The grant is to cover the costs of maintenance, refurbishment, and modernisation of the schools, and a management cost associated with this work. It is also used to pay for compliance costs that are the responsibility of the Proprietor.
Policy Two Grant
The term given to capital assistance grants given by the Government for providing accommodation for roll growth at existing integrated schools, or for the construction of new schools that are accepted by the Minister of Education to be integrated into the State system.
Under the old policy the level of assistance given for a classroom at an existing school is $130,000. The assistance granted for a new school is based on the number of students on the roll who would otherwise need to be accommodated at a State school.
Under a newly agreed policy, the capital assistance granted for the construction of a new school is 85% of actual construction cost, provided the roll of the school reaches the agreed number of 400 for a Primary school and 750 for a Secondary school within the required time frame.
